My unforgettable journey with Nordic Jobs Worldwide

Martin is now working at Nordic Jobs Worldwide, but before that he worked in Cyprus after getting help from us!
Now you can read about Martin's journey below.

Are you one of them who are dreaming of moving abroad, but don’t really know where to start?
Let me tell you, I’ve been there myself! It was the summer of 2019 and I had just graduated from school. The idea of working in the south of Europe, to escape the cold for a while and gain some international work experience, really drew me in.

At the same time, everything felt overwhelming. I didn’t know where I could work, and what kind of job I could be doing. Such a significant life decision also comes with a lot of doubt, something that held me back for some time before I decided to do it. Now afterwards, I can confidently say it was the best thing I've ever done! I was surprised at how simple it was, and today I'm going to show you, step by step, how I did it with the help of Nordic Jobs Worldwide.

Step 1 - First talk with a specialized recruiter

This immediately relieved a lot of the uncertainty I had! I got in contact with a recruiter called Alva, who became my main point of contact throughout the whole process. We talked about my experiences, plans and goals, as well as my desire of working in the sunny south.
Based on our conversation, she presented me with three different positions, one in Barcelona, one in Lisbon and one in Limassol, Cyprus. She sent me the information about both the positions and locations, allowing me to research and compare the different options I had.

I couldn’t have asked for a more professional and accommodating experience than the one I got from Alva. On top of that she spoke Swedish (my language), something I found really comforting!

Step 2 – Application

After comparing my options back and forth for a couple of days, I decided to go with the role based on Cyprus. Not because I have any prior connection to the island, but because it sounded like a great adventure! Alva then guided me on my initial application and helped me gather all the necessary documents, before presenting them to the company in question.

Step 3 – Interview

It didn’t take long before I heard back from Alva with the good news that the company wanted to schedule an interview with me. At this point of time I started to get nervous again, like most people do before an interview. But this time I had to do it in English, something I had never done before. Luckily, I was well prepared for this interview thanks to Alva. She explained me what to expect from it and sent me some resources about general tips and tricks. So in the end, I entered this interview with a good feeling!

Step 4 – Job offer!

After going through 2 interviews with the company, Alva told me they will evaluate my application for some days before getting back with a decision. I would lie if I said I wasn’t a little nervous but I also had a pretty confident feeling after being so well prepared for my interviews. A couple of days later and Alva called me saying I got offered the job! I remember my starting date was in 3 weeks, so I didn’t have a lot of time to think about it and sort things out. But for me it was a no-brainer to take the job considering how well structured the process has been since day one.

Step 5 – Relocating and starting my new job!

Even though I didn’t have much time, I basically only had to pack my bags, as the company was offering me flights, accommodation, and help with working permits. It was such a relief and all my earlier worries had now turned into pure excitement. When I arrived in Limassol, I got a warming welcome from both staff and colleagues, whilst Alva followed up with me on a regular basis making sure everything was in order. I was able to but all my energy on making friends, exploring the beautiful island and developing my career.

The rest of my story on Cyprus would require another 2-3 blog posts, but to summarize it all, I ended up with life long memories and friends from all over the world, as well as an international work experience.
Moving abroad and leaving my comfort zone turned out to be the best decision I’ve taken, and I encourage all of you who have read this far to do the same. In the end, we only regret the chances we never took!
