Tell me about yourself briefly
My name is Matthias and I am 27 yearsold. I was born and raised in the west of Germany in a city in the so-called Ruhr area, called "Bochum".
After moving back to Germany from Barcelona, I moved to a small town called "Castrop-Rauxel", but more about that later.
Already during my training as a real estate agent a few years ago, I had already had the opportunity to breathe big city air.
At that time, it was a 4-month stay in Berlin, which has really inspired me, actually, since that time I was clearthat I wanttoleave Bochum at some point to live in a metropolis like Berlin.
As life is sometimes so, this project has been postponed a bit whereby I cameto a new opportunity or let's call it experience.
Since I've been working in the field of digital marketing for years, I got the chance to fly to Barcelona for a few days (at least that's what I thought), which was a few months before the COVID situation came about.
In the end it happened that 14 days became 1 month, one month became two and so on... at some point it came to the COVID situation, so I decided to "hold out" this time in Barcelona.
In that time I fell in love with this city and found my new future home.
Bochum became Berlin and Berlin finally turned into the decision to move to Barcelona, a plan that is in the pipeline for the coming year. (I like the climate in Barcelona better than that in Berlin :D)
Two funfacts about you
- I spent several 10,000 hours in various videogames back when I was a teenager. (and earned my first money with it)
- I have already meditated more than 250 hours in my life
Tell us a little about your hobbies
I have always done a lot of sports in my life. In the past I played soccer for a long time, then tabletennis which I gave up relatively quickly until I came to Muay Thai and MMA, which I did for a few years. When the work has become more at some point I gave up the sport. But would definitely like to start it again!
I still love to switch off in a video game, but not as excessive as in th epast haha.
I have also somehow found a passion for continuing my education in a variety of fields. I have read tons of books and invested over 5 figures in different online courses and coachings.
You work with recruitment, could you tell us more about your career?
Originally, I come from the real estate and finance industry in which I have been active for years, it started with my training as a real estate agent. After a few years as a real estateagent, I worked as a financial advisor and took care of my first clients in digital marketing. After many years, however, I realized that I wanted to turn my back on the world of finance and so, after a while, I came to recruiting.
What has been your favourite travel destination so far and where would you go next? WHY?
My favorite travel destination for me was definitely Barcelona, I was there for a long time and had the opportunity to look "behind the scenes", not just as a tourist but as someone who, really has the time to get to know the people, the culture and especially the city in all facets.
In addition, one of the most impressive travel experience was definitely my vacation on Lanzarote one of the Canary Islands, this island is a volcano, that was the first time I have seen a "black beach" and got a steak grilled only with the volcano heat coming out of the ground. A destination that is definitely on the horizon for me is Dubai, this city simply impresses me with its speed, prestige and entrepreneurial culture, everything is big, happens fast and there is simply no limit, a very inspiring place which I would like to visit once.
How did you find your way to MJW?
After my time in Barcelona, I was looking for a new challenge that I could take on from my homeoffice, I didn't have to search for long and was able to find the job advertisement for an International Recruiter position via Indeed.
I read through the description and this instantly appealed to me, where upon I immediately applied, after a few phone calls and the application process with Max, the recruiter responsible for this position, I immediately took on the opportunity In a completely new workingarea, without any previous experience in recruiting!
What are your plans for the future?
My plans for the future are definitely to learn every day to become the best version of myself, whether in my personal or professional life.
I want to be able to help more candidates find their dream job on my way as a recruiter (you can't imagine how good it feels to have a positive impact on someone's life ). And on top of that, I want to be a great leverage within the company through my knowledge in digital marketing.
