5 TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL ONLINE ASSESSMENT

We´ve all been there before when applying for a job. You get to a further stage in the recruitment process, you are really excited about the position and now it´s time to do an online assessment. Some positions require a language assessment, others a technical test. It can even be a personality questionnaire. The set-up however is always more or less the same. We know some candidates can experience stress, even fear of failure, regarding these online tests. Don’t worry, we´ve got you covered! Here are 5 tips, and basically all you need to know, to be successful!

Gear up!

It all starts with the right equipment. Make sure you have a laptop or a PC available, as well as a stable internet connection. We know people use their smartphones for almost everything these days. But using a smartphone or tablet to take an online assessment is not really a good idea. Every recruiter has a case of their candidate failing the required tests and then finding out afterwards they tried to do it on their phone. If you don´t have the right equipment, communicate this to the company you´re applying for or the recruiter you are working with! Surely a solution can be found.

Focus focus focus

Make sure you take the time to fully focus on the task at hand! Find yourself a quiet place, where you are not disturbed or interrupted, and make sure you have enough time so that you don´t have to rush through the assessment. If you have your kids, pets or partner running around in the same room, or if you try to quickly take the tests in between other tasks, you won´t be able to concentrate and you will for sure make mistakes. Peace, silence and enough time are important keys to a good result.

Read the instructions

Online tests almost always come with instructions and clear examples of how the questions should be answered. You would be surprised if you knew how many candidates quickly click through this, only to start the assessment and notice after a few items that they are not entirely sure if they are taking the test correctly. Don´t proceed to the actual assessment until you have read all the instructions and until it is completely clear what you´re supposed to be doing.

Communicate

If you´re feeling insecure or worried about taking the assessment, which is understandable when you really want the job, just talk to us about it! A recruiter is here to guide you through the process and to help you succeed in getting your dream job. We are more than happy to help, even if all you need is a little pep talk. Don´t hesitate, pick up the phone and call us.

Relax, you´ve got this

Lastly, it is important to remember, this is not an exam or a school test. It´s not something you can study or prepare for. Make sure to keep in mind the four points mentioned above. Other than that, if you tried your best, then you did everything you could!

Good luck!
